Operation Restore by Queen of Spades

Greetings Readers, Writers and Precious Patrons! In case you were unaware, May is National Short Story Month. As part of this month, representatives from the All Authors Publishing House will be stopping by to share snippets of their short stories.

Today, we have Indie Author Queen of Spades.

Author Bio

There are different components to the writing anatomy which creates Queen of Spades—part passion of a poet and part cadence of a storyteller.

Since the age of eleven, Queen of Spades’ blood flowed with the rush of ideas that dripped in a rhythm inundated with stanzas. She has released numerous poetry collections, as well as poetic collaboration efforts with fellow writer MJ Holman and participants in the Soulful Branches and Words of Fire and Ice anthologies.

Shortly thereafter, Queen of Spades’ desire for storytelling decided to take spotlight alongside its poetic counterpart. Her independent releases include “Taint on Religion”, “Mr. Bradley’s Garden” and “When Summer Lingers”. Her anthology contributions can be found in Summer Shorts II: Best Kept Secrets, Crackles of the Heart (part of the Divergent Ink series), along with “Unity” and “Vitality”, Book 1 and 2 of the Concordant Vibrancy series.

Some say Queen of Spades is a Poet of the People. Others label her a Life Writer. One thing remains constant in her delivery, whether it’s a poem or a story—it touches each individual in a sovereign way that lingers well after the diction is complete.

One of the anthology series that she is a part of is Concordant Vibrancy. Today, Queen of Spades allows a glimpse into her contribution for the 2^nd book in the Concordant Vibrancy series (“Vitality”) with “Operation Restore”.

Excerpt

I slid the bronze key into the keyhole. It did the familiar slight stick before complying with what I wanted. I stepped inside the house then paused, remembering the trick to avoid the disaster between key and knob. The shiny knob was gripped with one hand while the other hand did one, two, three quick jiggles prior to removal. A satisfying exhale leaked between my top and bottom lip as I closed and locked the back door.

While walking from room to room, pain and disgust put grooves in my normally calm demeanor. Disruption was in a number of spaces—a combination of torn and soiled clothing, neglected literature, and bundles of trash. One would easily surmise that a natural disaster of epic proportions had caused havoc in the historic house I once labeled home.

Yet, this was the work of one person. Matilda. Even in our union, she was not the cleanest of people. However, the least she could have done was left some type of structure. Perhaps Matilda was sending a message—a reminder of what our affair diminished into before she delivered its ending.

All of this muck simply would not do! This had to be put in order … at least as close as possible before I made my presence here years ago.
