Dear Readers, Writers, and Precious Patrons,
Today, on All Authors Blog we welcome Amber Daulton, author of the romance novels A Hero's Heart, and Timeless Honor.
Amber,
thank you for stopping by. To start off, what inspired you to become a writer?
I’m
a dreamer. For as long as I can remember, I loved to read and think about
faraway places. I read my first romance book when I was 12 and fell in love
with the genre. I gobbled up as many romances as I could get my hands on and
started to write my own my books. I also love to read history text books,
especially when I need information and inspiration to write a historical-based
story. There are so many ideas, crazy characters and different worlds in my
head and it’s a stress reliever to write them all down on paper or my laptop.
What
drew you into the romance genre?
I
love happy ever afters. While I don’t need a HEA or even romance as a sub-plot
to enjoy a good story, I do prefer two people falling in love to any other
genre.
What
is your favorite type of romance to read?
That’s
a loaded question. When I read contemporary, it’s my favorite. The same when I
read paranormal and historical. Though, when I go through my Kindle and look at
the print books in my office, I do have more paranormal romances than anything
else. What can I say? Vampires rock!
You
write in different sub-genres of romance, is there one you prefer over the
others?
I
think contemporary is my favorite just because it’s the easiest to write. It
requires the least amount of research and it’s usually set in reality, so I can
just write and not worry about important dates or modern word usage as I would in
a historical story, or develop backgrounds for supernatural creatures which
takes a lot of time if you do it right.
In
your opinion, what elements make a great romance novel?
Drama
and emotion. The reader needs to feel the characters’ happiness, anger,
ambition and heartache. If the reader can’t connect with the H/h as well as
with the villain and side characters, then the book needs more characterization
and detail.
Out
of all your books, do you have a favorite? If so, why is it your favorite?
I
don’t really have a favorite but the most fun to write was A Hero’s Heart. I love
intrigue, suspense and danger, and I get a kick out of writing fight scenes. Jarrett
Brandt, a DEA agent with a shady past, returns home and reunites with the woman
he loved and lost. Trouble follows him and the people he knows and trust aren’t
as they seem in this sexually-charged romantic suspense set at Christmastime.
Which
one of your characters would you like to switch places with?
I’d
love to switch places with Jaye Ramsey, the heroine from my historical/time
travel romance, Timeless
Honor.
After Jaye falls down a mysterious portal in the famed Salar de Uyuni, she
meets Lucas Kenway, a moody reclusive baron, three hundred years in the past. The
village of Hawksatter accused him of the murder of his newly-wedded wife, who
just happens to be Jaye’s grandmother who traveled forward in time, and Jaye’s determined to bring Lucas out of
seclusion and back into the world.
After
all, a woman in love can do anything, right? That’s why I’d like to change
places with Jaye. She’s spunky and I love her take-no-bull attitude.
Can
you share with us your upcoming works?
Yes!
I have two new books coming out summer 2016.
Timeless
Beginnings, the time travel prequel to Timeless Honor, is the sensual story of innocent
Leonora Harris and CIA operative Rodger Ramsey, Jaye’s grandparents, in the 1960s.
They fall in love in Bolivia but can they stay together when he needs to leave
the country and she’s without papers? Good thing Rodger has a few shady
connections.
Calla’s
Summer Fantasy is a sexy ménage romance with a HEA. Calla Lansky and her two boyfriends
have one hot sultry night together on the beach but Calla must choose between
them by morning. Will she pick Nathan or Sam, or will the men decide for her?
When
you’re not busy writing, how do you like to unwind?
My
hubby and I love to watch whole seasons of TV shows in a short time frame and
right now we’re in the middle of The X-Flies, season 5. I also love to
scrapbook, ride my bike, create picture teasers for my books, dig in my flower
gardens when it’s not freezing outside, and play with my kitties.
Amber’s Books:
About the Author
Writing
is the fruit to happiness.
Amber
Daulton lives her life by that one belief even though she normally isn’t so
Zen.
Author
of several novellas, she published her first book in 2012 and hopes to publish
countless more in the future. As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and
historical romance novels alike, she can’t get enough of feisty heroines and
alpha heroes. Her mind is a wonderland of adventure, laughter and awesome ways
of kicking a guy when he’s down. She probably wouldn’t be too sane without her
computer and notebooks. After all, what’s a girl to do when there are people
jabbering away in her head and it’s hard to shut them up? Write! Nothing else works.
