Author Interview of Jock Brocas

Author name:
Jock Brocas

Book Title:
Book of Six Rings

ISBN:
0804841551

Release Date:
July 2011

Website:

What made you decide to write this book?

For me, creating the ‘Book of Six Rings’ was about teaching spiritual lessons within the text - not really about Martial Arts or Budo. The reality is that one who just reads on the surface – perceives a martial arts book. However, it was never written this way and I can liken it to experiencing the void within meditation. The book was intended to help others live a blessed life in the service of humanity no-mater how small the gesture. Hidden within the text are lessons in love, compassion and forgiveness. These are lessons the great masters of Budo learned when they went above and beyond the combative sides of their chosen art, and are the lessons of every religion upon the planet no matter what you believe. I teach that we all have an intuitive nature that is innate and available to everyone. You may also label at as you wish, and the choice remains whether to use it or not. Essentially the book is also a guide on how to live spiritually and for the true beginner, teaches easy ways to meditate to enhance ones life.

What is the genre?
Non Fiction

How did you start your career?
I wrote my first book just after the disaster of 9/11 as i wanted to teach others how to utilize their intuition to remain safe in a world fraught with danger. This was titled "Powers of the sixth sense - how to remain safe in a hostile world" and was picked up by a small publisher in the UK.

Who/what inspired you?
I have many inspirations, from well known writers and spiritual teachers.

Do you have any future projects planned?
I have now delved into the fiction arena and i am writing a new book based on my paranormal experiences and knowledge. This is obviously somewhat challenging as i have never written fiction. However, as one well known author said to me "Jock if you can write, you can write anything. Its all a matter of creativity."

How long have you been writing?
I guess i have written all my life, from short stories when i was young to just thoughts and musings. I enjoy the craft of writing and teaching through the written word.

Did it start as a hobby or a passion – planned or unplanned?
It was most certainly unplanned.

Would you have changed anything about your story?
I think as an author, you will always try and perfect your writing and will want to add things and take things away. The secret is knowing when to stop.

What do you consider your writing style to be?
Many individuals have said that i am an in-depth writer and others say that i am easy to understand, so i would like to think that i am a writer who writes easily digestible material.

Did you have any support during the process or no support?
As always, my support comes from my wife whom i adore and love, without her i would not be where i am today. She is my rock and also a talented writer too.

Who would you consider to be your hero?
I have no Hero's

What would you tell other aspiring authors?
Believe in yourself and never give up. If you fire enough arrows, one will hit the target eventually. I would also say Nin, which is a Japanese word for perseverance and endurance. Never give up! Think about this, if you push for something then you often push it away – allow it to come to you. Imagine if you will that you stand at the base of a beautiful waterfall. You want to capture as much of the water as possible because it seems the more you have - the better you will feel, but you can’t hold it for long. It will dissipate just as everything in life is temporary – even struggles. Therefore stand at the base and allow it to come to you. Immerse yourself in the water and surround yourself with its power. I feel this is a good analogy for new author’s. Sooner or later, your door will open.

Did you find the journey to be a dificult one?
Every journey in life can be difficult, nothing worth having was ever easy to come by and very often you have to suffer to gain enlightenment. This is the same with anyone searching spiritually, be they an author, a banker, or a lawyer - we all have that path to tread and sometimes it can be rough. There are no such things as mistakes along the way, just missed opportunities for growth.

What was the happiest point; when the manuscript was completed or when the book was put in print?
For me, i was so happy when i completed the manuscript and the editing process was finished.

What are your plans for the future of your writing career?
I have many writing projects on the go and i will continually write as long as there are lessons that i can share with humanity to enhance life a little more.

Looking back, would you have changed anything?
The past is gone, why worry about changing anything that brought you to this point in life now.

Do you feel that the story took on a life of it's own, or did it go just as you planned?
I did not write a story, but i always feel as if i am guided by something greater than me. This is jus the same as great artists that have gone before us such as Mozart etc.

What is your favorite saying or quote; and why?
The past is gone, the future has not arrived, the only time to live is now.

I believe in being mindful of the present moment, for it can help us to deal with all of life's struggles and challenges.

Tell us something, that most people don't know about you.

I am very compassionate, forgiving, accepting and deeply spiritual. This is a quality I have learned through life experience and I believe is in everyone.

01/12/2012 "The Enchantress" Excerpt

Following is a sample reading from
Chapter 3 of
"La Encantadora (The Enchantress)"

The large man, knocked on the door in some sort of code it seemed, “Mauricio. She's here.” he said. Just a second or two later the door was being flung open. Mauricio, stood behind it with a large grin.
“Pretty girl, I see you decided to come. So nice to see you.”
“Hello.”
“Please come in, come in.” he stepped to the side; just enough to allow me entrance in threw the doorway. I heard the door being closed behind me. I turned to see Mauricio’s hand holding the nob, “Come child. Follow me.”
He walked ahead, leading me into a dark room, which contained nothing but a dirty, broken, mattress, simply tossed on the floor. I began to feel a tingle in the pit of my stomach. Fear, began to set in again. When I looked back up at Mauricio, what had once rang in his voice, now twinkled in his eyes. He had the look of a cold-hearted snake. My hands began to shake just a bit. Yet, I kept my composure.
“So, pretty girl. You never told me your name...”
“Zita.” I said, still on guard.
“Zita. How pretty. I like it. Does it mean anything?” I could hear the hissing in his tone again.
“No. It's just a name.” I lied. My parents, named me Zita, short for Rosita, like the beautiful Roses of a lovely garden, my mother once told me. The quickest image of my mother telling me the story passed through my head.
“It's a lovely name.... Now, Zita... Let me show you how money is made by beautiful girls such as yourself.” He locked his hand on my arm. I jumped.
“What are you doing?” I asked nervously.
“Helping you get money.” he said, this time the hissing snake in his voice began to sound more like a lion roaring at his prey.
“Let me go.” I demanded. Then, with fearsome rage he pulled me in. All of it sort of went fast and slow at the same time. My memory seemed to blur one thing in with another. I remember fighting, screaming, kicking. I, not so distinctively remember, someone tossing me around. I vaguely remember, my clothes being torn off.
Then, everything cleared in my mind, in the midst of it all. Suddenly, I found myself no longer fighting. As soon as I stopped fighting, his grip became just a bit looser. He had me pinned on the bed, half naked, however, not yet violated.
My mind went blank, and a song began to ring in my head. Something I'd never heard before. I found myself singing along with the tune. I noticed Mauricio's gaze soften, his hands letting go just a bit more. At that very moment, I felt an inward power begin to erupt. The song began to overtake me, yet, I liked it. It felt natural. Almost, as if I'd regained a lost part of myself.
Then, I felt my eye's pierce through him. Looking deep into his soul. And, I sang. I sang a song that I'd never heard, yet, the tune of it seemed to have been etched into my soul. I found a voice, that I knew not, existed. Yet, its melody came to me as naturally as breathing.
I looked up at Mauricio, gazing at his reaction. He was hypnotized. His eye's floated about in their sockets. His mind seemed lost and aloof. Then I spoke, yet my voice was not my own. It rung in harmony with the tune that I'd just been singing. The lyrics seemed to coincide perfectly with the tune.
“♪Mauricio, get off of me.♪” I instructed, in the hypnotizing melody.
“Yes.” he said simply and rose to his feet.
“♪Stand against the wall. Allow me room to move.♪” I directed him once again.
“Yes, my Zita.” he seemed in a complete daze. Now, I was “his Zita”. What was he thinking? I wondered. I didn't know, but at this point, it mattered very little. So long as he did as I commanded. He arose and stood up against the wall. His back to it and his palms face down, touching it. Still, his head wobbled about and his eyes danced in his head.
I got up, continuing to sing the melodious, sensual tune, got dressed with no hurry, and began to make my exit. However, before I exited the room, I sang one last command to the slithering snake that made me unkept promises.
“♪Mauricio, watch me from out the window as I leave, and when you can see me no more... Jump!♪”
He simply nodded, without muttering a word.

I walked out swiftly, closing the door behind me. Made my way down the stairs, and out the building. Not looking back once. As I turned the corner, I heard a loud smash, on top of what I could only assume was the roof of a car. Then, commotion, I walked as rapidly as I could through the streets, making my way back to my safe little box home. I was trembling from what I though was a delayed reaction to the nights scare.

01/07/2011

This poem was written by a good friend of mine, Jonathon Koerner. What I love about Jonathon's poetry is the rawness of it. We are both from what I refer to as "The same side of the tracks" - both born and raised in the "Hood" also known as the "Ghetto", and due to that I have an appreciation for the style of his literature. Our language was not always "grammatically correct" not always "punctually accurate", as "slang" was a way of life for us. However, everything we said, and however we said it, meant something! The following poem, is a great demonstration of just that....

My December

By: Jonathon Koerner

In my December
Life we breath, heart beats in sync
I can feel, only what is real
Your touch, relieves pain in such a way
Maybe there is a brighter day?
For now wish only for you to stay
just laying by my side
Applied life in my lifeless soul
Warmth melting the cold
Molding a new me, which is free
No longer to be imprisoned
See vision of life, in our endless nights
Only to be remembered, in my December

Keep a look out for him...
I have a feeling he's going to be BIG!

01/05/2012

Hello my dear friends and followers!!

I am in desperate need of your help... Ok - maybe not DESPERATE need... But in a lot of need. Lol

I am trying to come up with a cover for my up and coming novel "Finding Death", and I've come up with a draft. So, here it is... Please leave your feedback. Tell me what you think. Is it eye catching? Is it alluring? Does it look interesting? Let me know. The first three people to leave me feedback will get a complimentary e-book copy of the novel when it is complete. So, let me know...

Following is a excerpt of the story!

"Finding Death"
Chapter One
Copyright 2012
Y. Correa

I felt myself falling. Faster and faster. “Why'd I run?” I asked myself repeatedly as my body was being pulled with unequivocal force by gravity to the water below. The edge of the cliff becoming father and smaller with every passing centimeter. Everything went slower. I could feel the force of my body as it pushed against the air pressure, “Why did I run?” I repeated, “Why in the hell did I run? No one can run from their own fate!... Stupid, Travis! Stupid!”
The air pressure pulled my arms and hair forward, and my hair covered most of my vision. I knew, at my core, that in a matter of a millisecond I was going to hit the water with incredible force. Even more than that, I knew that once I hit it was I going to die. I'd be dead for sure this time. I didn't bother to open my mouth to scream. It would have been useless. I closed my eyes, and I could hear the whistling of the wind as it gushed upwards from beneath me.
Bam! Half of my body hit a rock and instantly ricocheted going then back down to hit the water with full force. The water instantly drowned me. The taste of salt-water and blood rushed in my mouth. A fog of bloody water clouded my vision. Bubbles of asphyxiation surrounded me. I was immobile to do anything to save myself. I felt myself falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of nothingness...
I was gone!
Once again I opened my eyes in the same place. The place I'd once come to before. I already knew what to expect. I'd been here before. I didn't move an inch deciding on staying put, as I knew that at any moment, Alec, would appear and try to speak to me.
There it was. His light. As it had done once before; it glided in my direction. I stood, immobile. He came and stood right besides me now. Yet, it surprised me that he said nothing. With a wave of his hand he opened an all too familiar portal to the Middle Ground. He looked back with a half-way glimpse. I could practically read his mind. I followed him in.
I felt something change inside of me. Something transformed as I passed through the open gateway to the Middle Ground. Yes, I had indeed changed. I looked down at myself, and saw the “other me” the “first me”. The one that I was before I became who I am. The entrance in through the portal transformed me into him... Azriel.
There had been no use in running from it. They had been right. My fate had followed me.
As if by instinct, I immediately knew what to do. I looked up at Alec, he looked at me then lowered his eyes in a gesture of welcoming. As if by pure magic a list of people popped in my head. It was more than natural the way that I just knew what to do and how. I opened a portal of my own.

Time for my first assignment...

One year earlier...

Many myths, legends, and stories have been told of my kind. Humanity has conjured up many versions out of their own imagination as to what and how they believe us to be. However, I find the need to make amends with all misinterpretations that exist in this world about my race. I am Alec, Guardian of Mankind. Some call us “angels, guides” or “archangel”, we are known by many names. It is my obligation to rectify the vague, obscure image that has been made of my kind throughout the centuries.
Following I will make it my mission to clarify any misunderstanding about us; the species know to you as “Angels”.

We are a breed of supernatural beings; less than gods and more than man. We, however, are less favored than mankind. We were created by the “Creators” Yes, there are two of Them. The Alpha and The Omega. The Beginning and The End. The First and The Last. One-in-two, both the same and both different. We, just as you, were made by the Ultimate of Beings, yet, we were called to protect and serve, you. And the “Higher Sources”, found this to be good. And so, it was.
Our mission? To serve and protect mankind. Yours? To render homage and honor to the “Higher Sources”
Simple.

Since the beginning of life, we have come to existence, every one of us with a different calling and purpose. Within our species are sub-species. This chronicle will serve as a guide to help you understand who and what we are.
In the Middle Ground of the heavens exists a podium which holds on it twelve thrones. Seated upon those thrones is the Hierarchy of Angels. Six Arch’s and one of each other breed of angel. They are as follows:
The seven breeds of angels are; Archangels, Angels, Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, and Virtues. Besides the Arch’s who total six seated at the thrones of the Hierarchy there is also one of each other breed; each one a leader of its kind. Each angel breed has its functions.
The Hierarchy Members are as follows; An angel, a seraphim, a cherubim, a throne, a dominion, a virtue, Metatron, Sandolphon, Michael, Raphael, me Alec – Gabriel’s replacement, and finally Azriel.

The Arch’s assigned to the Hierarchy are the most important of the species. The functions of the Hierarchy of Arch’s seated at the thrones are as follows:
Metatron: holds the “Book of Life and Death” in his hand. He and Sandolphon are twins. Both created to complete one and other. Both one half of the other. Metatron alone knows who will be born and who shall die in a single day. It is his position to forward the list of the people that are to die to Azriel so that Azriel can collect the departed souls. He holds what can be considered a supervisory position. He is commissioned with those who are to be born and those who have departed. Such is his job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good, and so it was.
Sandolphon: the Arch in charge of the earth and everything therein, and she is the Arch that carries the prayers of the just. Being the second half of Metatron, Sandolphon is charged with caring for humanity during life. Whereas Metatron is only present in the beginning and the end, Sandolphon is present during. In other words, the middle of life. Such is her job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good, and so it was.
Michael: the Arch, also known as the right hand of the Creators. It was by his hand that Lucifer was cast from heaven and it is his function to ensure that heaven remains in perfect order. His will is strong and his arm powerful. Such is his job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good, and so it was.
Raphael: the Arch, also known as the healer. The Alpha and Omega created him to heal the hurting. No matter what their pain; be it physical, mental of emotional. He is commissioned with healing and repairing the damages that humanity may have to endure. Such is his job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good, and so it was.
I am Alec, I hold the position once given to Gabriel. I am commissioned with the protection of mankind. It is my occupation to ensure that man stays unharmed and functional. Though, man can hurt each other, I am to see to it that man does not annihilate each other entirely. I am to see that mankind does not cause its own extinction. Such is my job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good, and so it shall be.
And finally, Azriel: the Arch in charge of collection of departed souls and passing them onto their final destination. He is typically seen as a dark being. And this was a figment of mankind’s own imagination. Humans do not like to face death; therefore, they make death out to be an ugly and terrible thing. Yet, it is of the natural order that all that live, must at some point die. Yet, he too is an Arch and every bit as important and powerful as any other Arch. Such is his job; and the Higher Sources saw this to be good… yet, things change…

The throne of Azriel has been empty for three decades…
